A contemporary residential apartment building, called “19 East” after its address on 19 East 19th Street, officially opened on March 19 after two years of construction. The new building is one of many new rental buildings going up in the area surrounding the 22nd Street light rail station.

The rental units are being marketed as “luxury apartments” and should appeal to young professionals commuting to Manhattan, Jersey City, Hoboken, and Newark. According to Ingerman Construction, the firm tasked with building the structure, the building includes 212 parking spaces on the bottom two floors, and 138 units – 24 studio apartments, 74 one-bedroom apartments, and 40 two-bedroom apartments. Rents will range from $1,800 per month to $2,400 per month. The building that once stood at the location was under control of the Bayonne Housing Authority, but contaminated and vacant for years.

Now that the 19 East is completed, the question is how that midtown neighborhood will change with hundreds of new, young professional residents.
